What you may like to know before you go
Important information about your Landmark vacation

What exactly is included in my vacation?
The true value of your vacation is in the accurate detailed vacation description on the website and in the brochure, which is unusually specific about accommodation, touring in deluxe motorcoaches, sightseeing, and included meals. The agenda for each day is spelled out with exactly what is included in the price. Sightseeing with Local Guides is clearly listed. All inside visits, including admission charges wherever applicable, are mentioned in UPPERCASE. Prices for flights, visas, insurance etc. are not included in your tour price and will be quoted at the time of booking.

Do vacation prices include tips to Tour Directors, drivers & Local Guides?
It is customary worldwide to pay tips to Tour Directors and drivers on all international vacations, and gratuity is included in your tour price so you don't have to budget for this at the end of the tour. You will receive a gratuity voucher with your travel documents, and all you need to do is give this to the Tour Director and the driver at the end of the tour. The tips charged at the time of booking are fully refundable if you need to cancel your vacation for any reason. Tips for Local Guides are not included in your tour price.

What airline will I be flying?
The choice of airline is at your discretion and can vary as per your convenience and preference. This is one of the advantages of taking a Landmark Journeys vacation, Your Travel agent will be able to offer you with various options to choose from.

Do I need a passport and/or a visa?
When travelling overseas, a passport is required for all Indians. Most countries require a visa. You are responsible for obtaining the correct visa and paying for all visas and entry documents. Please pay special attention to certain tours that need more than one visa (eg., Europe’s Best requires 2 visas – Schengen & UK).

Will I receive help with visa information and applications?
Your Travel Agent will be able to assist you with the information on visas. However, granting visas is at the discretion of the respective Consulates. Visas can be rejected if documents are incorrect and inadequate and it is your responsibility to ensure that all documents are available as required by the consulates. Most visas in Europe require a personal interview and it can take a few weeks to obtain a visa during peak time. Full cancellation, as applicable, is payable for guaranteed tours if visa is denied by consulates.

When will I receive my travel documents for the tour?
Travel documents including itineraries and other information are sent approximately two to three weeks prior to departure, provided full payment has been received. A service charge per reservation may be added for tour documents requested in advance.

What is the policy if I have to cancel? How can I protect against cancellation?
In case of cancellations, the airfares and visas will be billed on actuals. Some services are non-refundable and these will be advised to you at the time of booking. For the tours, the cancellation policy differs based on the tour and the time of cancellation. These details are available in the Terms & Conditions section as well as on the website and from your travel agent. You can protect yourself against the tour cancellation charges for covered reasons by purchasing Trip Protection from Cosmos. Please note Trip Protection covers only the land cost of the tour. It is optional for you to purchase Trip Protection and it is not included in the standard vacation price. It cannot be added after the tour is guaranteed for payment. We recommend that you purchase this and a comprehensive travel insurance policy for your vacation to safeguarded your interests.

Does Landmark Journeys offer a Travel Protection / Insurance plan for purchase? Is a plan included in the vacation price?
Landmark Journeys offers Cosmos’ Trip Protection / Insurance that protects against trip cancellation, delay, and interruption. This is not comprehensive travel protection and only provides coverage on the land tours of Landmark Journeys, in case you have to cancel or leave early due to covered reasons. The cost of Trip Protection varies based on the tour price and is in the range of US$59 to US$79 per person. Your Travel Agent will also recommend a suitable comprehensive travel insurance in addition to this. Most consulates require that you buy this prior to obtaining your visa.

Are arrival & departure transfers arranged for all vacations?
Airport transfers in Europe and USA are included in the standard vacation price of your tour for qualifying flights. To ensure that your flights qualify for the transfers, please check with your travel agent. For those taking pre/post nights, transfers can be provided at an additional charge.

What is the difference between a twin-bedded room and a double-bedded room?
A double room is a room designed to accommodate two people, though not necessarily with two separate beds. A twin-bedded room has two separate beds of any size; this is what we usually reserve for our travellers.

What size is a triple room?
A triple room is the same size as a twin-bedded room. It will have beds to accommodate three people; however, we cannot guarantee that there will be three separate beds. If there are only two beds, a rollaway bed may be requested but also cannot be guaranteed.

Who will be my travel companions?
Your travel companions will mostly be cosmopolitan Indians from all across the country. They will be of varied ages and professional backgrounds. This is a wonderful opportunity to make friends from across the country.

How hectic is my vacation going to be?
Every vacation has a pace meter indicating its pace on the brochure. Please go through the itinerary pages for specific scales applicable to that vacation.

How long will we be on the road each day? How often does the motor-coach stop en route?
Driving time varies for each vacation. It depends on the itinerary, and the driving distance is mentioned in the travel documents, if available. You can also request this information in advance. When driving between cities, the motorcoach stops after every 1.5-2 hours at places where you can pick up a snack/meal and use restrooms. Most vacations do not include drives from one city to another every day.

How early will I have to wake up on the vacations?
The wake-up call differs based on the type of vacation, the season when you are travelling, the city that you are in, and even the weather. Wake-up times are not the same each day and the Tour Director will advise you of these once the tour begins. Early starts offer the advantage of reaching sightseeing spots before the rush, leaving you free the rest of the day to enjoy the destination and to do as you please.

What cuisine do I get on the tours?
Our vacations strive to introduce you to authentic flavours so you can enjoy the destination in a deeper way. However, we do understand that you crave for Indian food while on holiday. Keeping that in mind, we have included a nice balance of Continental and Indian Dinners, while breakfasts are purely continental. All breakfasts and most dinners are included on tour. All dinners include a choice of vegetarian meals although some places, particularly American National Parks may have very limited vegetarian options. We regret our inability to offer special food such as diet meals, salt free etc.

When can I purchase optional excursions?
Your Tour Director will go through the optional excursions for purchase while you are on vacation. You may choose and purchase any optional excursions at that time. A list of optional excursions will be included in your documents for review prior to departure. Approximate costs and descriptions of possible optional tours are mentioned in the travel documents to enable you to budget. They can be booked and paid for on tour only. Some optional tours mentioned in your travel documents may not operate due to weather, minimum participation, or other operational reasons.

What size can my suitcase be?
Due to limited motorcoach capacity, your bag should have dimensions not exceeding 30"x21"x11" or weight exceeding 22 kgs. Carry-on luggage should not exceed the dimensions of 12"x11"x6". We regret that we are unable to accept a second suitcase or any luggage exceeding these limits. Please note that air carriers, cruise lines, and other forms of transportation may have other restrictions and requirements including weight. Some airlines also charge for checked in baggage. Landmark Journeys is not responsible for any additional fees imposed by airlines on baggage.

How is seating determined on the motorcoach?
We offer daily rotation of seating, which gives everyone a variety of views. The rotation is mandatory and is adhered to by everyone, without exception.

How can I make the most of my vacation?
Our vacations endeavour to immerse you in the local destination experience with regional Tour Directors, and are of international standards and quality. Because your travel companions include people from all parts of the country, being friendly and a part of the group–rather than on your own–makes it more enjoyable for everyone. It is imperative that you maintain punctuality at all times–for departure times, optional tours, and meeting times–so that everyone can enjoy a positive tour experience. Also remember that showing respect for cultural differences often gains you respect in return. Keep an open mind and exhibit attitudes that reflect our nation in a positive way–every citizen is the country’s ambassador, especially when travelling overseas! When you book a Landmark Journeys tour, you will receive a list of FAQs along with your invoice. In addition, our travel documents provide details that will help you maximize your information. We highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with expected travel etiquettes listed on our website before you travel.
